McGrath Announces Candidacy
Will Seek Re-Election as Attorney General
in 2004 Election
(Helena) In front of a standing room only crowd of
supporters in the Montana State Capitol, Attorney General Mike McGrath
today announced
his candidacy for re-election.
"Today I am announcing that I am a candidate for re-election
as Montana’s
Attorney General," said McGrath who was first elected Attorney
General in 2000.
"Being Attorney General has given me an opportunity to use my
skills and training as a lawyer on behalf of the people of Montana.
It is
a position that I truly love and I’m proud that my office has
made a positive difference for our state," said McGrath.
McGrath
earned a degree in business administration from the University of Montana
in 1970 and he graduated from the Gonzaga University Law
School in 1975. He was also a Reginald Heber Smith Community Lawyer
fellow in Reno, Nevada, providing legal services to low-income clients.
McGrath is a veteran of the United States Air Force. Prior to being
elected Attorney General in 2000, McGrath served as Lewis and Clark
County Attorney for 18 years.
McGrath is currently chair of the Conference
of Western Attorneys General (CWAG) and is a criminal law co-chair
for the National Association
of Attorneys General (NAAG).
In his announcement speech, McGrath noted
the progress his office has made in the areas of criminal justice,
victim services, consumer protection
and streamlining regulatory services.
"There is much to do in the coming years. Many of the projects
I have outlined have just begun. I want the opportunity to see these
completed.
I want the opportunity to continue to serve the people of Montana as
Attorney General. I hope the voters of this great state will give me
that opportunity," McGrath concluded.
