News: McGrath Speaks About Montana's Natural Damage Litigation at Columbia Law School

HELENA – Attorney General Mike McGrath on Monday was a speaker at a symposium on the role of state attorneys general in national environmental policy at the Columbia Law School in New York.

The symposium for other attorneys general and their staff focused on three specific environmental problems: global warming, groundwater pollution and natural resource damages.

McGrath was invited to speak about Montana's Natural Resource Damage Program, the related litigation with Atlantic Richfield Co. (ARCO), and the success of the 1998 partial settlement of that case.

“I'm proud to share the successes of Montana and the state's Natural Resource Damage Program,” McGrath said. “The program is an excellent example of public and private agencies working together to remedy decades of environmental injury in the Clark Fork River Basin.”

The National State Attorneys General Program at the Columbia Law School paid for McGrath's trip.
